According to Sergeant David Lockhart of The Royal Bahamas Police Force Road Traffic Division, the accident happened in the Lightbourne Street area just off Farrington Road.
“A female driver, who held an infant in her hand while she drove, collided with a bicyclist,” said Sgt Lockhart. “After she collided with the bicyclist, she reversed her car and fled the scene.”
He added that police officers are currently conducting an intensive investigation into the matter.
“We are following some leads with regard to the driver of this vehicle, but it brings to light the ‘don’t care’ attitude of motorists towards other road users,” said Sgt Lockhart.
According to officials, the male cyclist is currently listed in “very critical condition.”
Now, Sgt Lockhart is asking for the public’s assistance in this recent hit and run case. “I would like to take this opportunity to ask the members of the public if anyone has any information concerning this particular crash, to please contact the Road Traffic Division of The Royal Bahamas Police Force or call 919,” he said.
Meanwhile, Traffic officials have revealed that there have been 16 traffic fatalities in the past five months.
