Man Charged With Witness Tampering

Delanzo Cartwright, a resident of Avocado Street, Pinewood Gardens, was handcuffed and escorted to court by plainclothes officers from the Central Detective Unit. He was formally arraigned before Magistrate Roger Gomez. Cartwright, being concerned with others on Friday, July 21, attempted to pervert the course of justice by offering Marco Major cash to refrain from giving evidence in a criminal trial.

The defendant was not represented by legal counsel and pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Gomez adjourned the matter to August 1, when Cartwright is expected to return to Court Five to face the charge. But before leaving the court, Magistrate Gomez chastised Cartwright for appearing before the court dressed in a pair of jean shorts and a white singlet T-shirt.

Cartwright responded that he had appeared in court in exactly the same outfit he was wearing when police picked him up on Wednesday.

According to Cartwright, he was not offered any other clothing to wear by authorities.

He also told the court that he was treated like a “dog” by police officials.
