An adult male is being held in police custody for questioning in connection with an "unnatural" sexual act involving a 10-year-old boy, it was revealed.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Reginald Ferguson said police responded to a home in the Fowler Street area on Wednesday after a concerned resident in the area reported to the authorities that a minor was being sexually abused.
"A little boy and an adult were reportedly caught in an unnatural condition," he said. "The crime was reported by some person in the neighbourhood, who had some information about it and the police responded to the matter."
According to Mr Ferguson authorities are unsure of the age of the adult male who reportedly sexually assaulted the 10-year-old. The accused male is presently in police custody and the authorities are investigating the matter, added Mr Ferguson.
Moreover, he explained that depending on what turns up during the police investigation, if there are grounds to substantiate the sexual assault claims, the adult male would be charged and brought before the courts.
"We don't know what will turn up from the investigation. If we arrive at the point where we can charge someone, depending on the nature of the complaint, we will wrap up the matter and put him before the courts," he said.
More Crime
In other crime matters, the Assistant Commissioner said investigations into the death of 35-year-old Nicole Gibson, killed in a "suspicious" fire last week, are still ongoing.
He emphasised that law enforcement officials are still in the questioning stages of the investigation and have no suspects at this time.
Around 6:53 am last Friday, fire officials were called to a condominium off Faith Avenue where they found the body of Ms Gibson in an upstairs bedroom; she was an employee of the Cable Beach Resort.
Paramedics were called to the scene but Ms Gibson was pronounced dead upon their arrival.
When authorities arrived at the scene, the blaze, which was confined to the bedroom, had already been extinguished. Ms Gibson's 14 yearold-son was reportedly in the residence at the time of the fire but was in a different room. The authorities said the 14-year-old was able to escape without serious harm.
Police officials suspect arson as the cause of the fire which erupted in the north-western section of the two-storied residence.
At the scene, Assistant Superintendent of the Fire department, Jeffery Deleveaux said, "An accelerant was used … which was either gasoline, diesel or some other flammable liquid."
The authorities are unsure about who placed the emergency call to the Fire department, but it is believed that the call was made by neighbours in the adjoining building.
