The Central Bank of The Bahamas is proud to announce The Senior (Open) Category Competition and Exhibition component of its 27th Annual Art Competition and Exhibition to be held from Monday, 4 October to Friday, 29 October, 2010. The objectives of the competition are to identify, recognize, and encourage Bahamian visual artists.
The theme for the 2010 Open Category is ‘A MIGHTY PUSH FORWARD’.
Last years exhibition held the theme ‘Re-Defining The Portrait’, which, although open for interpretation, set a distinct visual tone for the exhibition. This allowed for a clear navigation of the work presented not only in terms of the theme but also with placing this work in the long chronology of portraiture in art history.
This year it was decided to conceptualize the theme a little further encouraging the participating artists to completely claim ‘A Mighty Push Forward’ as a personal interpretation for art production. Although the theme will still be a major criterion for this year’s judges, it is hoped that the urgency underlying the tone of ‘A Mighty Push Forward’ will prove to be a catalyst for efficacious work.
