The prosecution failed to appear for a bail application by a man charged with conspiracy to commit murder. However, the judge heard the application in their absence and granted the bail to Max Edmond, who is accused of plotting Marie Claude Saintilien’s murder with two other men.
Michael Kemp, who presented the application before Senior Justice Jon Isaacs yesterday morning, had informed the Office of the Attorney General of yesterday’s bail hearing on July 30. Still, no representative from the Office of the Attorney General appeared.
Kemp told the court that Edmond had substantial ties to the country as he owned real estate and a business. He said that Edmond, 53, had a pacemaker implanted several months before his arrest and needed to travel to the United States for follow-up medical care.
Justice Isaacs set Edmond’s bail at $35,000 with two sureties with reporting conditions at the Elizabeth Estates Police Station. Edmond must apply to the court for a variation of these conditions whenever he plans to travel to seek medical care.
Prosecutors allege Edmond conspired with Kerio Thompson and Jermaine Russell to murder Marie Claude Saintilien. Those men also face a murder charge.
Saintilien was killed outside her parents’ home on Cordeaux Avenue and Charles Vincent Street on June 23. Two gunmen allegedly approached the pregnant woman and opened fire.
