A German man who is wanted back home on rape and fraud charges pleaded guilty to having 30 pounds of marijuana with the intent to supply when he appeared before a magistrate yesterday.
Police arrested Hans Jurgen Rolf Fink, 46, and his wife, Natalie Ged Zielke Fink; 26, both of Berlin, when they discovered the drugs, which have a wholesale street value of $30,000, in their rental home in Pinewood Gardens on August 14.
At the time of their arrest, the couple had been living in The Bahamas illegally for three years, the court heard.
Fink told police that he received the drugs from the DEA as payment for his part in an undercover operation. He owned up to the charge at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell, and his wife pleaded not guilty.
Fink said that he had planned to give the drugs to someone – not to sell them.
Magistrate Bethell took Fink’s early acceptance of guilt into account when she sentenced him to 36 months in prison. With good behavior, Fink will be freed from prison in two years. Fink will be deported to Germany after completing his sentence, where police say he is wanted on rape, and fraud charges.
Mrs Fink was acquitted after Inspector Clifford Daxon withdrew the charge against her. Magistrate Bethell ordered Mrs Fink deported along with her children, ages nine months and three years old.
