Man Killed, Baby Shot In Drive-By Shooting

A 34-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting on Abundant Life Road Saturday night around 9:00pm. The man died at the scene and his 3-month-old daughter was critically injured after receiving a gunshot wound to her head.

Superintendent Leon Bethell reports that Raymond Bastian, of Fox Hill, was in the passenger seat with his infant daughter on his lap and his girlfriend was driving when another car pulled alongside them and opened fire.

The girlfriend drove to Solomon’s Super Center for help. The child was taken to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

While police are still investigating for a  possible motive, it is understood that Bastian was possibly going to step forward as a prosecution witness in the 2007 attempted robbery of an armoured truck outside The Royal Bank of Canada on Prince Charles Drive. Bastian was on $20,000 bail for that case which is set to go to trial soon.

Bastian was also a suspect in the murder of Kendal Andrews but was released due to lack of sufficient evidence.
