An Airport Authority employee was arrested after Drug Enforcement Unit officers allegedly found $5,000 worth of suspected cocaine concealed on his body.
The incident occurred on the Bahamasair 7:00am flight bound for Miami on Sunday.
Passengers were getting settled in their seats when officers boarded the plane and removed four passengers to be searched.
Three of the passengers were immediately released but one man, a 25-year-old male resident of Mount Tabor Drive, was arrested after authorities found the cocaine.
The Tribune newspaper reported that a “well placed source at LPIA” believes that the police knew who they were looking for.
“It had to be a substantial tip off for them (police) to be able to target one person. Usually they would send the dogs on board and ask everybody to get off but this time they took four passengers off… I guess they were looking for people who fit a description,” the source is reported to have told the newspaper.
Superintendent Anthony Ferguson, officer-in-charge of the Drug Enforcement Unit, said the investigation is continuing.
