Makisha Brown and Leroy Rolle were both found guilty manslaughter yesterday.
A Supreme Court jury took just over two hours to return a guilty verdict in the murder trial of a mother and her live-in boyfriend, who were charged with brutally beating her one-year-old son, to death three years ago
Around 4:38 p.m. Monday jurors found Makisha Brown, 25, guilty of manslaughter eight to four and her boyfriend, Leroy Rolle, 19, guilty of manslaughter 12 to zero
Prosecutors alleged that the couple inflicted fatal injuries on Levano Brown sometime between March 14 and 17, 2007.
On March 16, 2007, the little boy was taken to a local clinic in an unresponsive state and subsequently died while in hospital.
Pathologist Dr. Karyn Sands previously testified that the injuries that caused the death of the little boy were not accidental.
In fact, she told the court that during the autopsy she observed severe external injuries to the little boy’s head, abdomen and limbs.
The doctor went on to tell the court that the toddler had six broken ribs, brain hemorrhaging and a lacerated liver.
She also observed older injuries on the child, which she said were in the process of healing.
