Nassau, Bahamas — Approximately 100 employees of the Treasury Department will occupy a newly renovated building by the end of this year.
Minister of Public Works and Transport the Hon Neko C Grant announced that his Ministry is very pleased with ongoing renovations to the building during a walkabout on September 9.
“For some time the Treasury has been under public scrutiny,” he said.
“Employees and the public have been complaining about the building in which the Treasury is presently housed and we thought it was important that we do something about it.”
The five-storey building of approximately 18,786 square feet is located on East Street (opposite the headquarters of the Royal Bahamas Police Force) and is being leased from Scottdale Industries.
“We are well on the way to completion of the outfit,” Mr Grant said.
“Landscaping work is now being done and there is provision for staff and public parking. Clients and staff will be very pleased with the new Treasury Department,” he added.
Tim Johnson, project architect, said the Treasury has taken sincere measures to secure the new building.
A contract was awarded to Scottdale Industries for $675,000 to complete construction works of the building on Wednesday, June 17.
The contract includes painting of interior walls, installation of carpet and tiles, installation of doors and window treatments and construction of desk and counters. Mechanical, plumbing and electrical works are also included.
Ministry of Works’ technical officers have developed construction drawings, contract documents and specifications for the building.
