Winston Rolle: Selfish or Corrupt?

Winston Rolle is one of two members of the Board of Directors at the National Insurance Board (NIB) who recently resigned, or are in the process of resigning, after allegedly using “confidential information” to unethically enrich themselves.

Golden Gates MP Shane Gibson made the accusations in Parliament yesterday. Mr Gibson should know all about the art of selfishly ingratiating yourself at the taxpayer’s expense. The allegedly corrupt MP was accused of fast-tracking Anna Nicole Smith’s immigration permit and photos of him horsing around in the former Playboy model’s bedroom were published in a local newspaper at the time.

Notwithstanding Mr Gibson’s checkered past with the truth, it appears as though he has uncovered something rotten at NIB.

Mr Gibson said: “It is my understanding that there are two members of the National Insurance Board who are either still members or former members who resigned their positions to be able to get contracts with National Insurance. That they were privy to confidential information as a result of them being board members and so they have either resigned or are in the process of resigning in order to sign contracts with National Insurance. Is the Minister responsible for National Insurance aware of anything like that?”

The allegations were made by Golden Gates MP Shane Gibson in the House of Assembly during Opposition question time.

Mr Gibson alleged that the two board members resigned their positions so as to get contracts with National Insurance. Both men were privy to confidential information as a result of them being board members and their resignations are precursor to them signing contracts with National Insurance.

He asked Prime Minister Ingraham, who is also the Minister responsible for National Insurance, if he was aware of the situation.

Mr Ingraham responded: “I wish to advise the member for Golden Gates that the Chairman of the National Insurance Board will see the Minister at 5:00pm today.”

Ward is another “swiftie” whose incompetence at Bahamas First was exposed when the FBI was once called upon to reign in cyber-attacks emanating from the Bahamas First email servers.

Mr Rolle, who was President of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, used that position to milk what he could, in any way he could, with total disregard for the Chamber’s best interests.  He was once accused of ripping off a local web developer and stealing the Chamber’s website account for his own company.

Bahamas Press alleges that Mr Rolle, who was an advocate against the National Health Insurance, has finagled his way into a lucrative contract as payment for his role in opposing the implementation of National Health Insurance.

Rolle was sent to Jamaica to assist with the negotiations for the computer software company to be contracted for the National Drug Plan. Reports are Rolle has not only negotiated for NIB but, similar to Chamber business, he has struck deals mainly for himself.

Now, Mr Rolle has handed in his resignation, or is preparing to do so, and has received the full blessings of a contract issued by remaining members of the NIB board.
