A young Bahamian woman died after being shot in the chest with a small gun that her killer mistook for a gun-shaped lighter. The incident took place in Texas where the woman had been living for the past several months.
Joseph Ryan Douglas, 23, has been charged with manslaughter for the murder of his cousin’s wife, 27-year-old Shakarra Ward on Friday night.
Corpus Christi police report that Ward took a single gunshot wound to the chest and died of her injuries later at a hospital.
Friends were visiting at the time of the fatal shooting according to eye-witness accounts the shooting was accidental.
