The body of Acassia Porter was discovered Monday evening by a family member in the home she shared with her young son, off Carmichael Road.
The 23-year-old mother was found hanging by a leather belt from the ceiling in a bedroom.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance but pronounced dead on arrival.
People close to Ms Porter said she appeared stressed lately and that she had recently broke off an engagement.
Newspapers reported that the young woman left a suicide note but police were reluctant to confirm that detail.
Police said they will wait for the results of a coroner’s report before officially classifying Ms Porter’s death. However, officials say the evidence strongly suggests a suicide.
This is the third suicide of a Bahamian woman this year. Until this year, suicide in The Bahamas was quite rare.
Just last month, 51-year-old Deborah Smith, a mother of five, committed suicide. She was found hanging by strips of cloth tied to a wooden beam in the home she shared with her elderly father.
In February, 18-year-old Keisha Thurston was found hanging form the rafters of an apartment she shared with her mother off McKinney Drive.
