Biodiesel Plant To Begin Production By Month’s End

The production of biodiesel at the Bahamas Waste plant set to start by the end of this month.

State Minister for Utilities Phenton Neymour said the move will mean real progress is being made in renewable energy in The Bahamas.

“We have granted one (biodiesel) a license in Abaco and three in New Providence,” he told the Nassau Guardian.  “Production at the plant in New Providence was supposed to start this week, but it will happen most likely by the end of the month.”

The Gladstone Road plant took delivery of its biodiesel equipment this summer, with its plant expected to some of the estimated 500,000 gallons of cooking oil imported by the nation and turn it into a clean fuel clean fuel for its 50-plus vehicles by the end of 2010.

Minister for the Environment Dr. Earl Deveaux and Minister of State for Public Utilities Phenton Neymour recently visited Bahamas Waste’s facility on Gladstone Road to see for themselves the arrival of the plant equipment.
