Liberalization of the telecommunications sector is coming on stream in full force, with another company making a$1.5 million investment to introduce more Internet and phone packages to The Bahamas.
Jazztell Bahamas Ltd. is the latest entrant in the market to offer fixed and wireless Internet and phone services, which would increase competition for the three players now in the market, said head of the company Leslie Pindling.
“I think we need more competition,” he told the Nassau Guardian. “Cable Bahamas cannot be the only one to offer Internet service in The Bahamas. We need competition and I think there is enough market share for Jazztell, IPSI, BTC and Cable Bahamas to go around in this market.”
Although not officially launched yet, Jazztell already has 80 customers registered for its services.
Pindling asserts the company will likely see anywhere from 3000 to 5000 customers in its first year of being officially opened. The company will officially launch its products in December, with a soft opening expected for next month.
