Member of Parliament for Fox Hill Fred Mitchell said it right when during the sitting of Parliament on Wednesday he noted that for a long time the government had been urged to do a proper investigation into the airline industry of The Bahamas.
“It’s sad that it takes a situation like this to finally get the government to look into this situation,”said Mitchell.
It is indeed sad that it takes tragedy to fix a problem that seemingly stare us in the face every day.
The deaths of eight people in Tuesday’s plane crash in Lake Killarney no doubt should serve as more than a wake-up call to properly regulate charter operations in The Bahamas.
Airline charter companies and the way they operate have become so intrinsic in our culture that we tend not to give it a second thought.
Particularly on our Family Islands, it is commonplace to go to the airport, pay a pilot some money and jump on a small plane to go to another Family Island.
