Douglas Brian Pratt, 23, of Jelly Fish Lane in Yamacraw Estates, was charged in Magistrate’s Court with the murder of Shande Cartwright whose body was found at Adelaide Beach on Tuesday.
Pratt was the former boyfriend of Ms Cartwright and father of two childen with her. He was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge.
Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez said a preliminary inquiry will held to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for the matter to be heard before the Supreme Court.
Pratt, who was heavily bandaged on his forearms and abdomen, was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. His lawyer said he was severely beaten while in custody and forced to sign statements.
The judge ordered that he be taken to Princess Margaret Hospital fist, due to his injuries.
Pratt’s case was adjourned to November 30 and transfered to Court 10, Nassau Street.
