Two masked gunmen shot at armored car guards and got away with a bag full of cash in a daring daylight robbery on the grounds of Cable Bahamas on Robinson Road Friday.
The robbery took place shortly after 3:00pm as armed guards were exiting Cable Bahamas’ business office with the day’s cash deposits, according to police press liaison Sergeant Chrislyn Skippings.
Cable Bahamas Director of Public Affairs Dr. Keith Wisdom said that the ordeal began shortly after the armored car pulled up.
“A female employee of Cable Bahamas was exiting the business office, when she dropped her keys behind a car,” said Dr. Wisdom.
“When she bent down to pick up her keys and that’s when she noticed that two masked men were coming out of that car.”
Dr. Wisdom said video surveillance footage revealed that the men were waiting in the car casing the location for about 30 minutes.
The two gunmen hopped out as the guards were leaving the building holding at least one deposit bag, according to police.
The gunmen demanded that the guards hand over the cash and fired a shot at them, according to Dr. Wisdom, who added that none of the guards was hit.
One of the gunmen then approached the guards and grabbed a deposit bag, the one of the guards was holding, said Dr. Wisdom.
He added that after a brief struggle the guard let the bag go.
Dr. Wisdom said they got away with an unspecified amount of cash when they sped off in the same car they arrived in.
He added that it appeared that the men switched cars in the parking lot of the Solomon’s Supermarket shopping center.
Numerous police units to the distress call yesterday.
Dr. Wisdom described the police response was “tremendous”.
