The first all sports radio show in The Bahamas is just hours away from going on the air.
History was made as the station, Sportsradio 103 (ZSR103.5FM), was officially opened this past Saturday at its base here in New Providence inside the Dewgard Plaza in Palmdale. The undertaking was initially conceived by the late Phil ‘Smoka’ Smith and Bahamian Olympian Frank Rutherford. They were granted the licence for the station, and after countless hours of preparation and hard work, their dream is about to become a reality.
The station is expected to have regular sports updates, both locally and internationally, as well as a number of sports shows open to public response. Former broadcaster at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas, Marcellus Hall, is the Sports Director of the station, and along with sports enthusiast Kevin Taylor, they will host a show called ‘The Sports Guys’. Ivan ‘Showtime’ Showtime, Troy Feaste and softball player Jeannie ‘Bubbles’ Minus are also slated to host their respective sports shows. The Executive Manager of the station is veteran radio personality Vann Ferguson.
“In the last six months, we have put our announcers through tremendous training to help them develop debating skills, so that the kind of radio that we intend to put on is going to be a fantastic radio station,” said Vann Ferguson. “We will make sure that the content is accurate, entertaining and informative – we promise you that. When the switch gets flicked, we are going to make it very difficult for listeners to turn to other stations,” he added.
The motto of the station is ‘All Sports… All The Time’.
