Bahamas National Trust Executive Director, Eric Carey, Trust Education officer, Lynn Gape and Bristol wines and Spirits Wine Director Rusty Scates, all agreed that the 20th Annual Wine & Arts Festival held recently was ‘A grand event, well attended and a major fundraiser for the National Trust”.
Longtime major sponsor, Bristol Wines and Spirits, was joined this year by King’s Realty, Asa H.Pritchard and Purity Bakery. Providing fine finger foods were Citrus Catering on members night and Aligator Catering on the following day.
Several visiting wine experts joined local wine “Guru” Rusty Scates in presenting 53 wines from many of the world’s major suppliers:-Michael Maserieh, representing Chateau D’Esclans found “Numerous, very favourable comments from those tasting at table #9. The “Whispering Angel” wine was found to be particularly agreeable to the palate of the discerning “tasters” he concluded.
Another visitor João Carlos Verde, also had a constant stream of persons sampling Italian wines from Cesari and Antinori.
Trivento wines from Mendoza, Argentina, was represented by Export manager Julian Inarra Iraequi and wine educator Francisco Bragoni who commented “I usually have to give detailed explanations to the wine servers and our clients, but Bristol’s Wine director Rusty Scates, is so knowledgeable and has done such a good job that I had very little to do except chat to the patrons who were enjoying our wines”. Mr. Iraequi noted ” Many of our wines are sweet on the palate, very attractively priced and much favoured by our Bahamian clientele.” “We do also have a very good Malbec- “Golden Reserve” which drew high praise from many of the festival attendees”, he concluded.
Following the Festival, Bristol Wines stores offered special discounts on most of the 53 featured wines.
In addition to the wine sampling, over thirty (30) artists exhibited an outstanding variety of artworks. First time exhibitors Eric Ellis, Quentin Minnis and Morgan McKinney all reported satisfying interest in their works. Long time exhibitors Kim Smith, Roland Rose, Malcolm Rae, Toby Lunn, Thiery Lamare, Shakila Stubbs, Marco Mullings in particular, appeared to draw considerable attention.
The next major Bahamas National Trust fund raising event will be the annual “Christmas Jollification”, again sponsored by Bristol Wines and Spirits, scheduled to be held at “The Retreat” on November 20th and 21st.
