Water Infrastructure Upgrades Required For Baha Mar

More than $30 million will be spent by the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) to upgrade its infrastructure in preparation for the $2.6 billion Baha Mar project said Minister of State for the Environment Phenton Neymour.

In August, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham said the government would need to borrow $50 million to complete infrastructure upgrades at Cable Beach.

The WSC upgrades will include numerous main renewals, upgrades to either the Blue Hill Road or Windsor Road plant facilities and the construction of a reverse osmosis plant at Arawak Cay.

Approximately four million gallons of water will need to be produced daily by the reverse osmosis facility, according to Neymour.

A new sewerage treatment facility is also being planned at Gladstone Road for Baha Mar.

The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) is also conducting preliminary work in preparation for the Cable Beach development, including the relocation of a leisure station, the installation of additional street lighting and the installation of additional electrical lines.
