The Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) is hosting an open house to show off the new U.S. departures terminal at the Lynden Pindling International Airport. The public will have the opportunity to tour the new airport facilities before it goes into full operation next month.
Vernice Walkine, vice president of marketing and communications at NAD said, “The open house is all about showing the Bahamian public what the future of aviation looks like in our country. We’ve built an airport that truly reflects the people of The Bahamas.”
The new eco-friendly designed 247,000 sq. ft. terminal is the first phase of the $409.5 million airport redevelopment project. Amongst it’s highlights are artworks created specifically for the space by Bahamian artists John Beadle, Nicole Sweeting, Susan Katz-Lightbourn and John Cox.
Of the 12 artists selected to display artwork throughout the airport’s new facilities, four of them are from PopopStudios Center for the Visual Arts. The work of Popop artists Susan Katz-Lightbourn and John Cox will be featured in the first phase of the airport redevelopment and JP Saddleton and Dede Brown’s work will be featured along with other Bahamian artists in upcoming phases.
The new terminal also boasts a $10 million state-of-the-art baggage system and 19 retail and food and beverage options, including a native sit down restaurant capable of seating up to 170 patrons, which will be open for business during the public open house. There will also be live entertainment, face painting, samples and giveaways.
The open house is scheduled for Saturday, February 26 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m and is open to the public, no invitations are required to attend. Free parking will be available. For more information, contact NAD’s operations center at 702-1010.
