Animal rights activists are again outraged by images of animal abuse on Harbour Island, Bahamas.
A local newspaper reports that the Bahamas Humane Society has confirmed that they have received “countless complaints” and want the matter dealt with immediately.
Animal lovers on Harbour Island say they have all but given up after trying to convince the horse’s owner to take better care of the animal.
This is as bad as the time that the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism released pictures of horseback riding in Harbour Island, only to receive worldwide condemnation for the images that showed, what appeared to be, a horse with a broken leg being forced to “perform”.
This latest incident is another example of how the government is not serious about protecting animals in the Bahamas, where the police have the ability to deal with such cases, but never do.
Of course, the Bahamas police do not even seem capable of dealing appropriately with murder and rape, so it is far-fetched to expect them to deal with animal rights.
Just last week, a horrific example of animal abuse was reported in Grand Bahama. Police say they are “investigating” but everyone knows nothing will ever be done about that.
An article on BahamasB2B News, published last September, exposed the horrific conditions at the dog pound in Nassau where animal rights activists have been fighting for improved conditions for more than 15 years. Their pleas have fallen on the deaf ears of irresponsible legislators and incompetent police officers.
“The kennels were unsanitary, poorly lit, badly dilapidated, and seemingly grossly underfunded. The 15-20 animals appeared not to be taken care of; the cages were filthy with excrement and, in need of major renovations.”
The above quote was written by a 15-year-old who was horrified by his field trip to the Canine Control Unit in Nassau, Bahamas.
Despite the shock and international disgust that the article generated, the government has done nothing to improve the inhumane conditions of animals in The Bahamas.
