Writing on the Bahamas Press website, a blogger who goes by the name Altec gives a fairly concise analysis of the options facing Bran McCartney.
Mr McCartney, of course, is the former FNM wunderkind who resigned in a huff from the Prime Minister’s Cabinet, started a press assault on Mr Ingraham and did an about-face, resigning from the FNM and siding with the PLP in the recent vote to sell BTC to Cable and Wireless.
Some call Mr McCartney impetuous, naive and egotistical. Others say he has a master plan to change politics in The Bahamas.
Altec says he doesn’t think Bran McCartney will attempt to start a third party months before a general election.
“… he doesn’t have the time, man power or financial resources to vet candidates, put together a platform or put the necessary campaign machinery in place with looming elections.”
The blogger also shows, with facts and figures, that the independent vote Mr McCartney may be counting on isn’t the game changer that some say it is.
“… many are overstating the size of this voting block and overestimating the independent streak in Bahamian politics.
“If Branville has bought into this false perception about the Bahamian independent voter, then its a mistake on his part as this block isn’t large enough to be a foundation for any party at this time in Bahamian politics.”
While supporters of Mr McCartney are already grooming him for the role of Prime Minister, the majority of Bahamians are wondering if he will even keep his current seat in Parliament.
Altec advises Bran to remain an independent and lays out the three options that are open to him.
“I think Branville’s best option is to remain an independent for now because his number one goal above all else is to retain his seat.
option 1: Run as a stand alone independent
option 2: Run as an independent with an agreement with one of the third parties
option 3: Run as an independent with an agreement with the PLP.”
Altec votes for option number 3.
