NASSAU, The Bahamas — Human Resources Officers from throughout the Ministry of National Security attended eight weeks of training, which covered all aspects of General Orders and Human Resources topics, including the various categories of leave, appointments, promotions, budgets and disciplinary action.
Participants of the training programme have also been equipped with a practical manual, which they can refer to in almost any situation they may encounter. During the closing ceremony, Friday, February 25, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Harrison Thompson said every human resource management strategy should maximise return on investment in an organisation’s human capital and minimise financial risk. He said the training was geared to give the human resource professionals the necessary tools.
“Human resource managers should seek to achieve the above by aligning the supply of skilled and qualified individuals and the capabilities of the current workforce, with the organisation’s ongoing and future business plans and requirements to maximise return on investments, and secure future survival and success.
“In ensuring such objectives are achieved, the human resource function is to implement an organisation’s human resource requirements effectively, taking into account local labour laws and regulations, ethical business practices and net cost, in a manner that maximises as far as possible employee motivation, commitment and productivity,” Mr Thompson said.
Deputy Permanent Secretary, Cecilia Strachan, was the main facilitator with officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Public Service Department and the Attorney General’s Office.
