As traffic officers continue to enforce the seatbelt law, Superintendent Wendall Deveaux disclosed on Wednesday that while most motorists are conforming, random road checks throughout the island have unveiled one peculiar hiccup.
The officer in charge of the Police Traffic Division told The Freeport News that despite the effort of the general public to comply with the law, there are still some who continue to drive without wearing their seatbelts.
The excuse from a number of those breaching the law is that they simply forgot and then for others it is a matter of weight.
Those drivers have been and are being instructed to seek an alternative means of transportation as they will not be allowed to drive without the safety mechanism.
“A number of Bahamians nowadays are beyond the normal size and it poses a challenge to a few persons and we’re trying to work with them as much as possible and guide them to how this can be remedied,” he said.
