An apparent rat infestation at Bartlett Hill Primary School has triggered Ministry of Education officials to shut the school down for three days as they deal with the problem.
The Freeport News was made aware of the situation yesterday with sources sharing that the rodents are frequently seen scurrying around the campus playing and sometimes harassing the young students.
Quinton Laroda, area vice president for The Bahamas Union of Teachers said that he became aware of the problem a week-and-half ago when he was notified by the school’s shop steward.
He said the vermin are a major cause of concern because they carry diseases and pose an even bigger threat since they are in a primary school environment around young children.
