Societe Generale Donates To Special Olympics Bahamas

Societe Generale Private Banking (Bahamas) Ltd. has partnered with Special Olympics Bahamas to send Team Bahamas to the Special Olympics World Summer Games, scheduled for June 20 – July 4, 2011 in Athens, Greece. The Bahamian team of thirty-six (36) Special Olympics Athletes hails from the islands of Abaco, Grand Bahama, Long Island and New Providence.  The athletes will represent The Bahamas in 8 competitive events:  Aquatics, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Judo,  Tennis, Track & Field and Open Water Swimming

Chair of Fundraising for Special Olympics, Cleopatra Adderley, explained, “The cost to send our 36 Olympic hopefuls to represent Team Bahamas in the 2011 World Summer Games is $6,000 per Special Olympics Athlete, for a total team budget of $215,000. We rely heavily on the contributions of corporate Bahamas to raise these funds for our Special Olympics Athletes.” She thanked Societe Generale Private Bank for their generous donation to their cause and for their active corporate citizenship.

Other corporate partners that have given to the World Summer Games team include BSI (Overseas) Limited, Commonwealth Brewery Ltd., D’Albenas Agency Ltd., Family Guardian Insurance Company Limited, Royal Bank of Canada & Finance Corporation of the Bahamas Limited (FINCO), NUA Insurance Agents & Brokers, the Mark Knowles Foundation, Bamount Trust Company Limited. The Special Olympics Bahamas representative also expressed gratitude to these companies but noted that unfortunately, they are still not close to their budget if they are to field a team in this year’s Summer World Games.
