Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts is holding a unique fundraiser in aid of their residency program. For the last three years Popop has facilitated both international and local residency programs, which have brought tremendous credibility and visibility to the Bahamian art movement.
The community arts center is hosting a 24-hour “drawing challenge” entitled Sketch24, which will start on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 3:00pm and end exactly 24 hours later on Saturday April 30th, 2011 at 3:00pm. Members of the public are welcome to stop by any time during the drawing marathon to observe art in the making.
Participating artists include John Cox, Max Taylor, Heino Schmid, Khia Poitier, Kendal Hanna, Kim Smith, Sue Bennett-Williams, Jace McKinney, Dede Brown, Holly Parotti, Dylan Rapillard, Sue Katz, Rachelle Knowles, Margot Bethel, John Paul, Jeffrey Meris and several art students from the College of The Bahamas. Photographers Duke & Lisa Wells will be coordinating sessions with various artists who will be drawing with light.
On Saturday, at 6:30pm, Popop will host a formal opening where all the works created in the previous 24 hours will go on display with hopes of raising enough funds to completely refurbish their dining facility. Popopstudios founder, artist John Cox, said he hopes to make Sketch24 an annual fundraising event.
Drawings created during the 24 hour period will be on display in the Popopstudios main gallery from 6:30-9:00pm. All drawings are available for purchase.
Large drawings – $500.
Small drawings – $350.
Sketch24 is sponsored by Bank of The Bahamas, Coca Cola, Scotiabank, Brown’s Boat Basin, Bahamas Hand Prints, BahamasB2B.com, Tile King, Marco’s Pizza and other community-oriented companies.
Additional monetary donations would be greatly appreciated.
