A helicopter from Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) swooped down on a fishing vessel late Sunday afternoon and noticed the occupants throwing packages into the ocean, Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) Superintendent Anthony Ferguson said yesterday.
It was later determined that the packages contained one kilogram of cocaine and up to 26 pounds of marijuana collectively worth more than $43,000.
Police said the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), DEU and OPBAT received a tip regarding the fishing vessel and apprehended it just off of Great Inagua with 24 Haitians aboard, including a boy.
Police said the Haitians were expected to be flown to New Providence.
