Services at the Department of Social Services’ Horseshoe Drive location were suspended for several hours after some people who showed up for assistance reportedly threatened workers.
The day before, an employee received injuries to her hand and had to seek medical treatment, Deputy Director of Social Services Mavis Darling-Hill said.
Darling-Hill said yesterday’s event indicates that police presence is needed at the site, especially at month’s end when the department sees a hike in clients seeking temporary and permanent food assistance.
Darling-Hill said some of the people who showed up were rude and abusive. She pointed out however that not all clients are uncontrollable.
