The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Government of Georgia established diplomatic relations, focusing on education, culture and financial investment.
A joint Communiqué was signed by Her Excellency Paulette Bethel, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the United Nations and His Excellency Alexander Lomaia, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations, on May 13, 2011 at The Bahamas Permanent Mission in New York.
Ambassador Lomaia expressed a desire to explore opportunities with The Bahamas in the areas of education, culture and financial investment. He noted the possibility of a student exchange programme with tertiary institutions in both countries and the willingness of his government to enter into a visa waiver exchange agreement with The Bahamas to foster business and investment opportunities.
Both parties have agreed that the establishment of diplomatic relations between will be guided by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, signed on April 18, 1961, and on the principles and objectives enshrined on the Charter of the United Nations and other fundamental norms and principles of international law, particularly sovereign quality among the states, territorial integrity, inviolability of states’ frontiers and non-interference in internal affairs of another state.
Georgia is a country located at Western Asia and Eastern Europe with a population of about 4.6 million.
