THE government has admitted that its much-touted promise to build a new hospital using BTC sale money will not be fulfilled due to a shortage of funds.
Despite collecting $210million from the sale of the telecoms company, Minister of Health Dr Hubert Minnis said the $600million price tag for replacing the Princess Margaret Hospital is “money we do not have”.
At a town meeting on Thursday night, Dr Minnis conceded that a new hospital is necessary. Recognising this, he pointed out, the government invested in a number of studies and project plans.
However, at the end of the day, they were forced to admit that considering the country’s fiscal situation, “we cannot and will not get a new hospital,” he said.
