A judge in the Bahamas has rescheduled a hearing in the rape case against Florida International University baseball star Garrett Wittels and two friends.
The attorney representing the three men accused of raping two 17-year-old girls in Nassau said the decision to move the hearing to June 15 showed the weakness of the case against his clients, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday.
“This puts the brakes on a runaway freight train,” Miami defense attorney Richard Sharpstein said. “We believe that sooner rather than later this prosecution will be abandoned by the government.”
Hotel surveillance videos appear to contradict statements the girls made to Bahamian investigators following the Dec. 20 incident at the Atlantis Resort and Casino, the Herald reported.
