Concerns in other Caribbean countries about a possible drop-off in summer cruise arrivals isn’t worrying the local sector, with a tourism executive saying the cruise industry is fully prepared for what the upcoming months will bring.
Director of Cruise Development in the Ministry of Tourism Carla Stuart told Guardian Business yesterday that the number of cruise ships that will be repositioning over the summer months will not cause panic in the local sector.
Stuart’s comments come after concerns were allayed by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) about the decline in cruise passengers that occurs during the summer months. Discussions have been held between the two organizations to figure out how to combat the issue.
According to the CTO, cruise passenger arrivals increased by 6 percent for the Caribbean, exceeding 20 million visitors.
