BTC will make giving the gift of life even more meaningful when the company hosts its 5th Annual Blood Drive at the Mall at Marathon Saturday, treating donors to prizes, surprises and music. The drive will be held from 10am -6pm in partnership with the Princess Margaret Hospital, Doctors Hospital and the Bahamas Red Cross.
“In all of our contributory and philanthropic exercises, our goal is to improve the quality of life for the people in The Bahamas,” noted Marlon Johnson, Vice President Marketing. “With the blood bank resources at both hospitals in New Providence at constant risk of depletion, we’re pleased to be able to tap into BTC’s broad reach and provide such an essential lifeline.”
For the past four years the drive has attracted hundreds of persons who patiently line up at the Mall at Marathon for the opportunity to donate. This year, to reduce the wait and manage the crowds, BTC is introducing a 9 am pre-registration that includes a specific assigned appointment time.
“In previous years, we’ve been able to provide the blood banks with nearly 400 pints of blood and we thank the public who heed our plea,” said Johnson. “Of all the outreach efforts of BTC, this initiative is the one in which we take the greatest personal pride because it truly can make the difference between life and death. A single voluntary donation can save a life.”
BTC is sweetening the desire to donate by gifts to all donors including the chance to win a $50, $100 phone card or BTC Gift certificate – or even a brand new cell phone. A few donors will also walk away with Blackberry devices.
Donors must meet basic qualifications, Johnson explained.
“To qualify, donors must be at least 17, not have had the cold or flu in the past two weeks and not have gotten any tattoos within the past year,” he said. Entertainment will be provided by the BTC Starmakers, Visage & Sigma Fraternity. For more information on the BTC Blood Drive visit facebook.com/mybtc.
