Only days after the Privy Council condoned murder in The Bahamas, the 60th murder of the year was recorded when a young mother was shot in the head in Freeport.
Highlighting the extreme violence against women that occurs in the sewer Bahamas, a 24-year-old mother of two, tentatively identified as Kenisha McBride, was shot in the head while sitting in a car outside her ex-boyfriend’s house.
She was rushed to hospital by EMS but died about an hour later, leaving two young children without a mother.
Ms McBride’s ex-boyfriend, believed to be the father of one of her children, was questioned by police immediately after the shooting.
He was reportedly sitting in the car with her when she was shot outside his home in Royal Bahamian Estates, Freeport.
Only last week, the Privy Council, the highest court of Appeals for the Bahamas, literally condoned murder when they overturned the death sentence of an man whose life nobody would think to spare.
Criminals celebrated the ruling this past weekend with a spate of armed robberies and shootings across New Providence Island.
The Bahamas has had sixty murders so far this year, eclipsing last year’s murder toll which was already the highest in Bahamian history.
It is expected that the murder rate will increase substantially now that murderers know they can get away with their crimes. This weekend’s killings are an example of that.
