Lawyers representing Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) workers were unsuccessful last week in convincing the Court of Appeal to grant leave to appeal a recent decision to the Privy Council.
The application for leave stems from a failed bid in the appellate court to reverse a decision by Supreme Court Justice Neville Adderley, who struck out the unions’ case against the government.
Those unions were seeking to stop the sale of a majority stake in BTC to Cable and Wireless Communications earlier this year.
The Court of Appeal ruled in March that Justice Adderley exercised his discretion when he struck out the case brought by the Bahamas Communications and Public Officers Union (BCPOU) and the Bahamas Communications and Public Managers Union (BCPMU).
Justices Anita Allen, Abdulai Conteh and Stanley John made up the Appeal panel.
