It’s about time. After years of brackish water and promises from successive government to correct the problem, the residents of Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound, the largest settlements in South Eleuthera, can finally taste fresh water from their taps.
The Eleutheran website reports that Gregory Johnson, General Manager of the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) in Eleuthera, has confirmed that the tests are complete and water is now being pumped from the tanks at the newly constructed reverse osmosis facility in Tarpum Bay.
The build/own operation which has two 250,000 gallon storage tanks on site, cost the government $600,000. The facility is being powered with alternative energy, in the form of wind and solar energy, by General Electric (GE), who will supply water to the WSC at a unit cost.
The official opening has been p;ostponed to accommodate the PrimeĀ Minister’s availability.
