Two men accused of the triple murder on July 30, may have had to be physically restrained by police after allegedly using violence to resist arrest, attacking police officers and threatening a police officer.
The men who were arrested for the triple murder on July 30 were escorted into court yesterday looking disheveled after allegedly attacking police officers and threatening a police officer with harm.
The men, Shawn Knowles and Timothy Saunders, are accused of murdering three people, including a woman who was eight months pregnant, in an apartment off Carmichael Road on July 30.
The men were not charged with the death of the unborn infant because the child is not recognized as a person under the laws of the supposedly Christian nation.
Police think the murders were in retaliation for the July 12 murders of Kevin Forbes and Alwayne Leslie.
Revenge killing is becoming common in the Bahamas where murderers can pretty much count on never being convicted. Many murderers even get released on bail in a country where the justice system has completely disintigrated.
Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez entered a not guilty plea for Knowles, who claimed officers beat him but conveniently failed to mentioned that he allegedly attacked the officers and threatened them with harm.
He asked for a preliminary inquiry into the matter, saying police were lying and that they framed him, but Magistrate Gomez refused the request.
Gomez did, however, direct police to take the men to a doctor.
The pair were not allowed to enter pleas and were remanded into custody at Her Majesty’s Prison until trial in December.
