Arawak Cay Port Operating By End of Year

Arawak Port Development (APD) CEO Mike Maura said it is expected the new Arawak Cay Port will be fully operational by the end of the year although it would still be under construction.

Mr Maura told Tribune Business yesterday: “From an operating perspective our plan has been that by January we would have removed all of the less than container load (LCL) operations to Gladstone Road. At the end of the year we will be fully operational on Arawak Cay. We would still be under construction but we would have completed sufficient works so that each of the terminals will be operational, will be handling freight, will be serving customers and so forth.”

Mr Maura said marine works have consisted primarily of dredging to accommodate ships coming into the port, the bulk head at which these ships will dock, and the nearby “apron” or flat surface area where containers will be offloaded have been significantly completed.
