The first wave of BTC employees who accepted voluntary separation packages left the company with an average financial package of at least $100,000 each.
Bernard Evans, president of the Bahamas Communications and Public Officers Union, confirmed 161 employees left the company in staggered groups from 10am until the end of the work day.
A union source said many in the group are either starting a new business, retiring or finding another job after pocketing the severance windfall.
When pressed on how much money they were given the source said: “An average of $100,000 each at least.”
