Crime Really Does Pay

The legendary outlaw dubbed the “Barefoot Bandit” has inked a movie deal worth as much as $1.3 million with 20th Century Fox, but the money will go towards his victims.

Zac Efron is rumored to be one of the top picks to play the Washington state 20-year-old who went on a cross-country crime spree, once kicking off his shoes while being chased by cops in the woods.

Police nabbed Colton Harris-Moore in the Bahamas in 2009 after he broke out of juvenile detention and prompted a two year man-hunt. The teenager pleaded guilty to breaking into homes, looting cars and boats, and at one point stealing and flying two planes with zero pilot experience, Time magazine reported two years ago. Investigators said he wasn’t interested in money–it was more of a “Goldilocks” thing.

The damage he caused cost an estimated $1.4 million, and earlier this summer a court ruled that any profits must be used as restitution, according to the Daily Herald.
