Perry Christie is making empty threats to sue the PUNCH, saying that the recent story about his close relationship with allegedly gay pedophiles and drug dealers was slanderous.
The PUNCH printed a story last week saying that alleged pedophile Trevor Whylly and dead drug dealer/money launderer Teron Fowler, used to prance around Mr Christie’s house in their underwear. The tabloid said that this activity annoyed Mrs Christie, who went to live next door, then later moved to Atlanta because she could not take it anymore.
Christie, who appeared on a radio talk show over the weekend, refuted claims that his marriage was on the rocks because of his strange relationships with unsavoury characters. Oddly, he never refuted the claims that he indeed has strange relationships with unsavoury characters.
Mr Christie also took offense at accusations that he was always “late again” and that he failed to control his crooked cabinet. In what can only be described as delusional, Mr Christie said his term as prime minister was “unmatched”.
“We did so much for so many in such a short period,” he said.
Christie also said he was in full control of his cabinet, which is actually a more damning statement than if he admitted he was not. It certainly does not bode well for Mr Christie if he was in “full control” of a band of thieves and charlatans.
It is quite common in the Bahamas, when damaging remarks are made about a politician, for the politician to publicly state that they are going to sue for defamation. They usually make that threat so that the public will think that the damaging remarks must not be true.
Of course, since the information is usually true, the politicians never do sue, knowing full well that if they did, the allegations would be proven true in court and it would be the end of their political career.
Many politicians, like Perry Christie, have been losers all their life. Without the ability to milk the public purse, they’d be flat on their backs and broke. So they need their political careers.
One example of a politician actually launching a law suit is Attorney General John Delaney’s recent suit against blabbermouth Bradley Roberts. Roberts made derogatory and untrue statements about Delaney and Mr Delaney responded by actually initiating a law suit against the fat mouth PLP chairman.
It is highly unlikely that Mr Christie will sue the PUNCH because, more than likely, the story the paper printed is true. A reporter from a popular website talked to a neighbor of Mr Christie, who confirmed the fact that Trevor Whylly and Teron Fowler spent a lot of time at Mr Christie’s house. Whether or not they pranced about in jockey underwear, the neighbor couldn’t say.
