Domestic violence accounts for at least half of the murders in the Bahamas in 2010 and 2011, according to Minister of State for Social Services Loretta Butler Turner.
Minister Butler Turner’s comments came after two young women were brutally killed in two separate incidents over the weekend.
Twenty-seven-year-old Onieka Johnson was murdered almost 48 hours after Courtney McKenzie, 17, of Moss Town, Exuma, was stabbed to death, bringing the country’s murder count for the year to 90.
In both cases, police say, the suspects were ex-boyfriends of the victims.
