When all the data is in, the month of July may have been the hottest month of the year thus far, according to chief climatologic officer at the Department of Meteorology Michael Stubbs.
Recorded temperatures have hovered between 94 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit this month. However, when the relative humidity level is factored it has averaged 75 percent this year the heat index makes it feel much hotter.
“If you have 70 percent [relative humidity] or greater, and you have an average temperature of 94 degrees Fahrenheit measured in an enclosed environment, that gives you a feel temperature of almost 120 degrees Fahrenheit,” he told The Nassau Guardian during an interview.
The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) declared 2010 tied as the warmest year on record. However, Stubbs said this summer’s temperatures have surpassed those recorded last year.
