Straw vendors have been warned to bring their National Insurance Board (NIB) and business license payments up to date if they want to move into the new market when it opens next month.
It’s a warning that isn’t sitting too well with some vendors, who say they can’t afford to pay the bills off before that date. Collectively, the vendors owe tens of thousands of dollars in NIB payments and business licence fees.
The vendors reportedly received the letter notifying them of the need to bring their accounts up to date earlier this week. They will meet with government representatives sometime next week.
NIB director Algernon Cargill said NIB is willing to work out a payment plan for vendors who are interested.
