City Market employees gathered in protest outside the company’s Harbour Bay location Monday morning. They are tired of being treated improperly by the owners – Mark Finlayson is the Bahamas Supermarkets Principal.
With two stores now closed, the workers said their schedules have been reduced to a mere six days per month schedule, resulting in payment of a paltry $120 per month.
After automatic deductions and bank fees some of the employees are taking home about $10 per month, and one woman said she takes home only about $2 per month. The employees have decided that they would rather be properly separated from the flailing mismanaged City Market company and given their severance pay and they are asking for government assistance to ensure they get it.
