One Grand Bahama man is considering taking the government and the Royal Bahamas Police Force to court for unfair arrest last weekend.
The citizen, who does not want to be named, says he was driving along Queens Highway on Sunday afternoon when he was stopped by a police car, and asked to step out of his car by an officer who proceeded to check his car.
He said that after the check, one of the officers called in his driver’s license and later said that there was a warrant for his arrest for a traffic ticket.
He said he told the officers that the ticket had been paid, but they insisted that they had to take him into custody.
He was held in lock up overnight and went to court the following morning.
“The magistrate went on this tirade about how much it cost for a bench warrant and how much it cost to hold me in the cell and feed me” said the young man.
“So the Magistrate read the paper and said it seems I had paid the ticket and that it wasn’t taken out of the system. The Magistrate said the court apologizes and I was released.”
“We have people stealing, breaking in, armed robbery, killing and raping and you lock me up for that?!” he further asked.
