New Cruise Negotiations For Grand Bahama

Discovery Sun made it’s final departure on Wednesday, but the Ministry of Tourism is currently in negotiation’s to attract a new vessel to Grand Bahama.

Director general of tourism, David Johnson was in Florida where he was conducting meetings with one of two possible suppliers.

“There happens to be more than one proposing to us. We are evaluating the options with a view to one of them being realized,” he said.

Johnson said the Ministry of Tourism never had plans to have a service operational in September because it is traditionally a slow period for travelling.

Johnson said in earlier reports that a fast ferry service operated by the Spanish company Baleària was slated to begin services in Grand Bahama.

Hanns J. Hahn, vice president and general manger of Discovery Cruise Line said that he was still looking out for Grand Bahama despite the ship’s departure.

Hahn said he is on the fringe looking in with regard to negotiations for a new service to Grand Bahama.

He added that Grand Bahamians will have to rely on the Bahamas Celebration and another vessel that will come to the island, but he anticipates another option in the first quarter of 2012.
